FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT RENTING IN BURLINGTON

Yes, there is rent control in Ontario.

However, for new buildings, additions to existing buildings and most new basement apartments that are occupied for the first time for residential purposes after November 15, 2018 are exempt from rent control.

When making an offer, you will be asked for a deposit. If the offer gets accepted, you will need to provide the deposit to the listing brokerage within 24 hours of your offer being accepted by either post-dated cheque or bank draft.

For example, if you make an offer on an apartment on Monday at 6 p.m. and the offer gets accepted 3 hours later at 9 p.m., you have to provide to the listing brokerage the deposit stipulated on your offer no later than Tuesday at 9 p.m.

According to the 2023 Q4 Rental Market Report provided by the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board, the average rent for apartments in the city of Burlington is as follows:
