If you recently visited Port Credit, you have probably fallen in love with the small yet vibrant community in south Mississauga. A neighbourhood that only stretches a few kilometres from east to west along Lake Ontario has won over the hearts of many visitors travelling far and wide to spend their afternoons visiting the town. Port Credit offers an unbeatable quality of life and offers a complete experience for every lifestyle.
One of the many reasons why Port Credit is beloved by many is it really has something for everyone. Whether you’re a young adult, a retired senior or starting a family of your own, Port Credit caters to all lifestyles.
But rather than visiting Port Credit on weekends, imagine being able to call Port Credit home. In today’s article, I’m going to share with you my firsthand experience as a local living in Port Credit, why it’s a great community and why I believe you should consider moving to Port Credit and calling it home.
What Is It Like Living In Port Credit?
Take it from me, a local resident and Port Credit real estate agent, this neighbourhood is an incredible place to live.
At any given time of the year, there is always something to do. Whether you’re looking to grab some food and catch up with family at the Pump House Grill or stay active walking, running or cycling along the Waterfront Trail, you will never be bored.
Port Credit also fosters a strong sense of community which is heavily influenced by the town’s passionate residents and interest groups like the Port Credit BIA. Many of the events you have come to know and love about Port Credit such as the Southside Shuffle or Paint The Town Red are organized by the Port Credit BIA and the local residents and shop owners who prioritize the well-being of their neighbours first.
Is Port Credit A Safe Neighbourhood?
Absolutely.
Port Credit is a family-friendly neighbourhood where families with young kids can feel safe living here.
Personally, I find Port Credit to be one of the safest neighbourhoods in Mississauga, especially for how lively it can get. Port Credit does have a lively nightlife but when compared to other communities like downtown Toronto, Port Credit is by far a much safer option.
Port Credit Amenities
As mentioned earlier, Port Credit is loved by so many people because it can cater to any lifestyle. The ability to cater to so many lifestyles is thanks to the community’s unique amenities which are hard to find all in one place.
Sure, you may find some of the amenities mentioned below in other communities, but to find them all in one place is rare which makes living in Port Credit one of the best choices you can make.
Let me share with you some of the amenities that make this neighbourhood such a unique community in Mississauga.
Port Credit GO Station
Port Credit is located on the Lakeshore West GO Train line which can take you west to Hamilton or East to Toronto’s Union Station and beyond. Trains run frequently and are rarely late or delayed. You can get to downtown Toronto in approximately 35 minutes and even quicker if you take an express train.
Port Credit GO Station is also a transit hub for those commuting in and out of the city. As mentioned, you have the train that can take you to Toronto if you’re commuting for work but you also have the MiWay buses that can take you in and around the Mississauga area. With the addition of the new LRT line which will start in Port Credit and travel north along Hurontario, you will be able to easily visit other areas of Mississauga.
Port Credit Bars & Restaurants
If dining is more of your thing then you will definitely need an appetite to enjoy all the food options Port Credit has to offer. Walk down the street and you will find a top-tier restaurant in seconds. I won’t go over my picks of best Port Credit restaurants or best Port Credit bars because those are articles all on their own, but I will highlight what options you can come to find.
There truly is a culinary offering for every palate in this community. Whether you’re craving Mexican, Indian, Italian, American, Japanese or Vietnamese (you get the idea – the list keeps going), you can find a food offering here.
Parks & Lake Ontario
As urban sprawl has engulfed many of the surrounding areas outside of Toronto, it has become harder and harder to find green space suitable for recreational use and enjoyment. Luckily, Port Credit is home to plenty of green space which gives families the opportunity to have some fun!
Whether you want to lounge in the sun on a hot summer day, take part in a game of soccer or play with your kids on the playground, you can do that here in Port Credit. The town has two notable large parks which are Port Credit Memorial Park and J.C. Saddington Park. Here, families can enjoy the natural outdoor space and beauty the town has to offer being so close to the waterfront.
One thing which can’t be replicated in other communities is the natural geography. Port Credit is situated right along the shores of Lake Ontario with the Credit River running right through the downtown core of the neighbourhood. This allows residents additional and unique things to do in Port Credit you can’t do in other neighbourhoods such as fishing and going kayaking, canoeing or stand-up paddle boarding. The fun doesn’t just apply to the summer months. Even during the winter, you can have fun in Port Credit like ice skating on the Credit River.
Port Credit Schools
Port Credit is home to some of the best schools in all of Ontario. As many families either start a family in Port Credit or move to the community with babies, schools become a serious topic of concern and rightfully so. You want to ensure your kids are getting the best education possible and that the school they go to matters.
Port Credit has plenty of options when it comes to the school your children can attend. There are both public school options and private school options.
Considering private school? You can enrol your children at Mentor College or Blyth Academy. These private school options provide education offerings for students of all grade levels.
Considering public school? You can enrol in any of the Peel District School Boards falling within the school boundaries. This includes some notable schools such as Mineola Public School, Forest Avenue Public School, and Port Credit Secondary School.
In fact, Port Credit Secondary School earned a ranking of 8.0/10 from Fraser Institute. Fraser Institute uses objective, publicly-available data to rate and rank the schools, such as average scores on state tests provided by provincial education ministries.
Port Credit Real Estate
If you’ve been convinced Port Credit is the next move for you, then we need to talk about Port Credit real estate. How else are you going to move to Port Credit without talking about the residential landscape?
Compared to the surrounding neighbourhoods such as Mineola and Lorne Park, Port Credit has fairly affordable options and a wide selection of house options. Unlike other neighbourhoods which might only focus on one style of housing option such as single-detached homes or a cluster of condo buildings, Port Credit has a wide variety of housing options at different price points.
If you’re looking to get into the Port Credit real estate market, it’s best to dedicate the appropriate amount of time and research to make sure you’re making the best move for you and your family. That is why you need to talk and get the service offerings of a local Port Credit real estate agent like Marco Pedri – Broker with Shoreline Realty Corp., Brokerage.
